Canto 31. Awakening (Feb. 2015)
Although it was Beatrice who sent Virgil to guide Dante,
now that she is before him in person, she chastizes him for too
often falling prey to the call of his senses during his life.
Dante confesses his shortcomings, and his remorse is sincere.
Matilda lowers him into a river, as if to cleanse him, and
then Dante sees a Christ-like griffin and seven virtuous women.
