Canto 32. Tree (March 2017)
(fourth incarnation)

Canto thirty-two of the original poem is filled with fanfare
as the grand procession of figures from recent cantos,
including Dante, Beatice, Matilda, the maidens, and the griffin,
move forward until they reach a tree that towers over them.
I draw from other traditions to portray the tree of life.
At one point an eagle descends from the heights of heaven.
