In the third canto of Paradiso in the original poem,
Dante sees, as if reflected on the surface of quiet water,
the faint faces of many maidens wishing to tell their stories.
They reside on this "lower" level of heaven because they
took vows of abstinence while alive only to naively be
led astray by men who were worldy in their ways.
